Class S Wastewater Scope: A Combined Treatment and Collection Credential
What the class covers
Under Regulation 100, Class S wastewater applies to a wastewater system serving 3,300
persons or fewer, and its authorised scope is the equivalent of the Class D wastewater
treatment scope together with the Class 1 wastewater collection scope.

Why it is combined
It matches how small systems are staffed. At a community of a few hundred or a few thousand, one
person runs the plant, responds to a blocked sewer, maintains the lift station, takes the samples
and completes the discharge monitoring report. Splitting that into two credentials would describe a
staffing model that does not exist
