Delaware Wastewater Operator Certification: Classes I-IV
Regulatory Framework
Delaware's wastewater operator certification program is administered by DNREC (Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control), with advice from the Board of Certification for Wastewater Operators, under 7 DE Admin. Code 7204 — Regulations for Licensing Operators of Wastewater Facilities. Every wastewater treatment facility in Delaware must operate under the direct supervision of a Delaware Licensed Wastewater Operator.
The Four Classes
Delaware uses a four-class system, with each class building on the experience and education of the one below it.
Class I — Entry Level
Requirements: High school diploma, plus 1 year of acceptable operating experience.
Class II
Requirements: High school diploma, plus 3 years of acceptable operating experience in Wastew
