Overview

Maryland's water treatment operator certification ladder (COMAR 26.06.01, Table 7) runs from Class G (lowest) through Class D, then Class 1 through Class 5 (highest). Class G and Class D cover the state's many small groundwater-supplied systems, especially on the Eastern Shore and in rural western Maryland -- a very different operational world from the large surface water plants (WSSC, Baltimore) that dominate the upper classes.
