Nebraska Wastewater Operator Certification
Nebraska's municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities are certified by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) through its Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Certification Program (OCP), a fee-funded program that certifies operators, rates facilities to determine staffing needs, and administers nationally accredited certification exams.
The Certification Ladder
NDEE issues municipal wastewater operator certificates on a five-step ladder, from entry-level to most advanced:
- Class L — entry-level certificate
- Class I
- Class II
- Class III
- Class IV — the most advanced municipal certification
A separate, parallel Industrial I-IV track exists for operators at industrial (non-municipal) wastewater facilities — these are rated and certified independently of the municipal ladd
