Nevada Distribution System Operator Certification
NDEP certifies Distribution operators separately from Treatment operators, across four grades — D-1 through D-4 — on the same 3-year renewal cycle used for Treatment certification.
Two Distribution Pictures
As with treatment, Nevada's distribution systems split sharply between two very different operating environments:
- Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) / Las Vegas Valley: A large, engineered network built to move Colorado River water across a rapidly growing metro area. Significant elevation change across the valley requires extensive pressure-zone management — the system is divided into zones so pressures stay within safe operating limits despite the terrain.
- Small rural systems: Draw from local groundwater wells and generally run far simpler, often aging infrastructure compared to the engineered SN
