Oklahoma Wastewater Operator Certification: NPDES/OPDES Permitting & Biosolids
Certifying Authority and Ladder
Oklahoma DEQ's Water Quality Division certifies wastewater treatment operators using the same Class D-C-B-A ladder used for water treatment, under OAC Title 252, Chapter 710. Certificates renew annually on a July 1 - June 30 cycle, the same schedule as water treatment certifications.
Facility Types Across the State
Oklahoma's wastewater infrastructure spans two broad categories:
- Municipal mechanical/activated-sludge plants, typically found in larger cities, requiring more advanced process control (aligning with the higher Class B and Class A credentials).
- Lagoon (stabilization pond) systems, common in rural areas across the state, generally corresponding to Class D and Class C facilities.
