South Carolina Water Treatment Operator Certification
The SC Environmental Certification Board (under the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation) licenses Water Treatment operators in four grades — Class D (entry) through Class A (highest). Certification renews annually (12 months), due June 30 — notably shorter than the 2-3 year cycles common in most other states.
Three Distinct Regions
South Carolina spans three geologically distinct regions, each shaping local water treatment challenges:
- Blue Ridge / mountainous northwest: higher elevation, different source-water profile than the rest of the state.
